Epic Communications launches Journalist Training Seminars

As part of our quest to foster a high standard of business journalism in South Africa, Epic Communications has conceptualised and launched a series of journalist training seminars. Each seminar focuses on a specific sector in the local economy and provides attendees with the practical skill and knowledge required to cover their beats more proficiently.

Held on 13 April in Johannesburg, our first seminar focused on the Mining and Resources sector and was sponsored by Exxaro Resource and hosted by Nedbank Capital. The seminar benefited from the participation of Deneys Reitz and the South African Chamber of Mines, whose representatives delivered keynote speeches on the history and overview of the sector and current legal issues in the mining industry respectively.

David McKay, one of the country’s leading mining journalists, wrapped the seminar up with an interesting and insightful Journalism 101 presentation. Over 80 delegates attended the seminar, including junior and senior representatives from across the spectrum of South Africa’s financial, business and industry trade media.
