VEHICLE SALES GROWTH SLOWS IN MARCH

April 2012: Vehicle sales in South Africa continued their growth in March 2012, driven by ongoing favourable buying conditions, with figures released by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) showing total industry growth of 5.0% year-on-year to 56 781 compared with the same period a year earlier.

February 2012: Leading moveable asset-based financier, WesBank, has released its International Mobility Study, which compares the operating costs of a typical passenger vehicle in different regions to highlight the variation in costs faced by consumers. The countries monitored include: Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States.

VEHICLE SALES RECORD STRONG GROWTH IN 2011

January 2012: Demand for new vehicle sales in South Africa remained strong throughout 2011, with figures released today by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) showing a 15.6% increase in total industry vehicles sales in 2011 to 570 012.

CONFIDENCE IN SA VEHICLE SALES BUCKS TREND

November 2011: While several recent surveys* have reflected declining confidence levels amongst South African businesses and manufacturers, the automotive sector seems to be bucking this trend, with overall confidence levels remaining steady among local motor dealers.

CONSUMER DEMAND FUELLING HIGHER SA PASSENGER VEHICLE SALES

November 2011: Increased consumer demand is one of the key factors fuelling the 19.8% rise in new passenger vehicle sales in South Africa in October, versus the same month in 2010. Figures recorded by National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) show a total of 36 826 new passenger vehicles were sold in the country last month.
